Why you'll love this recipe
- What are Cottage Fries? Cottage fried potatoes are potatoes that are sliced into thin rounds, coated in spices, and baked in the oven. They are called "Cottage Fries" because the potato rounds resemble shingles on a roof that you might see on a cottage. How cute is that?
- Another Easy and Delicious Way to Cook Potatoes - There are so many inventive ways to cook potatoes. They can be baked, mashed, or roasted. You can make Potatoes Au Gratin, potato salad, or potato soup (speaking of which, check out this creamy 4 Ingredient Potato Soup recipe). What a wonderful vegetable!
- Potatoes are the Perfect Vehicle for Flavor - The simple seasoning in this recipe is definitely a winner, but don't let that hold you back from trying out all sorts of seasoning blends. This recipe would taste incredible with a Cajun seasoning blend or dried rosemary and thyme would be delicious as well.
- A Healthier Way to Enjoy Fries - Because these fries are baked instead of fried in a deep fryer, they are a healthier option than traditional fries and just as satisfying. Serve them alongside Instant Pot Chicken for a yummy, well-balanced dinner.
Key ingredients
Potatoes - You will need 4 large baking potatoes for this recipe. Russet will give you Cottage Fries that are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside because of the high amount of starch.
If you use Yukon Gold, the inside tends to be more dense and creamy on the inside. But either one is absolutely delicious.
Salt - We all know salt and fries are a match made in heaven.
Pepper - Pepper adds a complex element of heat that only black pepper can provide.
Cayenne Pepper - Go light on the cayenne pepper to begin with, and add more heat to suit your needs.
Olive Oil - Olive oil is the oil of choice in this recipe, but any neutral oil will work great, though we love the additional flavor olive oil adds to this dish.
